While at Chapman University, Harris received a bachelors degree in MES/Kinesiology.
While in college, Harris spent time to start his coaching career at the high school and at the academy levels. After graduating from Chapman University, he moved to Canyon High School spending four seasons as the men's head coach. While at Canyon High School, Harris was invited to work with USSF and its (youth national team) programs. During this time, Harris was also introduced to his first collegiate job at Santiago Canyon College. Harris was then added and worked with the Los Angeles Galaxy, where he was part of the technical staff and received winners’ medals for the clubs success at the 2005 MLS Cup and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, as part of the staff winning the North American double. From there Harris spent four more years at the collegiate level with Irvine Valley College and then California Baptist University. Along with University coaching responsibilities Everton Football Club added Harris to their International Football Development team in 2008 and continued within the position through 2011. Harris is currently the Head Coach and Technical Director with Capital City FC of Ottawa within the professional first division of the Canadian Soccer League. Harris also continues to operate a program as part of its west coast operations the USL (United Soccer Leagues), organization in California (pacific-south) ScoreUSA / ISDA™.
In 2000, Canyon High School hired Harris away from Norco High School to serve as their men's soccer head coach. Harris started coaching at the high school level on the women's side with back to back postseason appearances and a CIF-SS semi-final appearance. The immediate success allowed him the opportunity to move back to the men's side and a head coaching position. Harris produced 4 straight post season appearances for only the second time in school history and 2001 was the first post season appearance in six years for the program. A century league title in 2002 and runner-ups in 2003 and 2004 never losing in the first round of the playoffs and reaching as far as a quarter final appearance in 2003. The national showcase event became the countries only and most exclusive High School event within soccer, an invitation only event allowing the best teams in the United States opportunity to compete in front of college and professional coaches. Many of the participating players and teams went on to greater success after competing within the "best of the best." The WCHSC event sponsored by such corporate partners as adidas, hilton hotels and resorts and jetblue. The event took on a philanthropic approach promoting awareness to such causes as grassroot soccer, kicks against breast cancer and US soccer foundation in 2004. While the event saw its greatest success with its ongoing media coverage, NSCAA all-America voting and its LIVE national broadcast in 2006 and then again in 2007 on Fox Networks, a first for amateur soccer in North America. The WCHSC was the first ever non-professional soccer event broadcasted live in network history and nationally syndicated across the country on regional networks. Harris success at the high school / academy levels sprung him forward to the USSF (youth national teams), college/university and Major League Soccer.
Harris was extended his first college coaching job at Santiago Canyon College due to his success at nearby Canyon High School, SCC saw its best two year period in program history during Harris' tenure as its 1st assistant coach. Such success saw Harris leave Santiago Canyon College to become an associate head coach to Martin McGrogan at Irvine Valley College. While at Irvine Valley College, Harris experienced immediate success again finishing runner-up both seasons on the final day of conference play within the orange empire conference and as part of the staff saw Irvine Valley College earn two straight regional finalist berths. Harris' ability to recruit and his success on and off the field provided him the opportunity to move to California Baptist University in 2008 as the lead assistant men's soccer coach. In two seasons at California Baptist University, Harris was responsible for helping the Lancers to back to back postseason berths in 2008 and 2009 and only its second and third ever playoff appearances in university men’s soccer history at the present time. Harris left the university scene after the completion of the 2009 season to focus directly on his role with Everton Football Club returning back into professional soccer full time.

During Harris' time at the Los Angeles Galaxy and in 2005 Harris was apart of the staff winning the U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup double. During the 2005 season Harris' role was defined on the technical staff focusing on the reserve team, performance analysis, player development, scouting and the MLS super draft, while preparing for the Major League Soccer (super draft) leading into the 2006 season. The tragedy of President and General Manager Doug Hamilton’s sudden death in the preseason of 2006 shifted the regime of the staff, after the start of the 2006 season. Harris remained with the Los Angeles Galaxy as Frank Yallop took over as head coach later in 2006.
